I went to Monza last year, before the race was on, but it did allow me to walk the circuit. I also managed to get behind the security barriers and take some emotive photos of the old banking. VERY emotional and full of ghosts. This is the North banking as it leaves the present circuit just after the pits. The back of the grandstand at the first chicane can be seen in the background. At this point the top of the banking is about 30' above your head and impossible to walk up!

Note the yellow "bravery" line!

Here is the South banking taken from the top. I used the security fence to climb up to the top. Note there are only 2 layers of armco. The old banking joins the new circuit just after the exit from the Parabolica, via a very ropy looking bit of concreting!

Was there a finer sport car ever made than the Porsche 91? Run by JW Automotive and in Gulf colours, they were beautifully prepared, but failed to win in the wonderfully brief spell at La Sarthe.

In 1971 the 917's were outlawed, but not before they had won in 1970 with the Porsche Konstruktionen entered car and again in 1971 with the Martini liveried 917K , short tail.
